Officially launching his campaign
on April 30, 2015, Bernard “Bernie” Sanders has worked to close the gap between
himself and Hillary Clinton. Due to the work of himself and his staff, popular
support of Sanders has pulled ahead of Clinton in New Hampshire. Feats like
these cannot be done without a strong and effective communication strategy.
Like the other candidates in this political season, Sanders has utilized social
media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. Whereas Hillary Clinton is already
widely known through her former position as Secretary of State as well as the controversy
surrounding both Benghazi and her personal email server. One of Sanders’ main
goals is to become more widely known amongst voters. When interviewed, Sanders’
campaign manager Jeff Weaver stated,” What
we've seen throughout this race is the more voters get to know Bernie Sanders,
the more they come to him”. One of the key ways that Bernie Sanders has tried
to put himself in the spotlight has been to prove his legitimacy as a candidate
in different ways. Looking at his campaign website, readers can find a timeline
of Sanders’ important political decisions in the Senate. Also, he has been
sharing both his goals as president and the methods he intends to use to
accomplish them. For example, before the most recent Democratic debate, Sanders
published his plan for revitalizing healthcare in the US. As we move closer to
the primaries, we can expect Sanders to both become more visible on different media
outlets and to share more details on his future.
