Bias in the media

By Branden Camp

The National Review
The article, which is titled “Tonight’s debate has to be the beginning of Trump’s downfall,” is clearly written by a person who is biased towards Democrats.  In the second paragraph of an article by The National Review, the writer quotes a Hillary Clinton supporter who called Republican Candidate Donald Trump a clown and writes that she was laughing.  This article is clearly written for anyone who opposes Trump, including those who are Republicans.

In a second article by the Review named “Against Trump”, the writers says, “Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.”  This article seems to be targeted at conservative voters.  The writer seems to trying to persuade conservatives to side with Cruz or Rubio.  Rather than reporting the news, this article is clearly a writer trying to dethrone the frontrunner.

Breibart
Photos can tell a whole story themselves.  The conservative news site Breitbart published a photo of Hillary that depicts her as angry.  She’s waving her finger and fist in the air.  The photo went along with an article titled “Hillary Clinton Contradicts Herself over Withheld Emails.”  The first sentence of the article reads, “Hillary Clinton is contradicting herself about her classified emails as she makes a last stand in Iowa ahead of Monday’s caucus.”  At first glance, you may see Breitbart as simply stating facts.  One cue that this article is clearly biased and created for conservatives is the fact that there is only one side being written about and that is quotes only going against Clinton as well as quotes she says that may incriminate her or make her appear guilty.  If the article included legal experts that offer a different side, this article would be more unbiased.

In another article by Breibart about Sanders titled “Amidst Pushback, Bernie Sanders Rumored to Suspend Trip to Speak at Vatican” calls out Sanders and his anti-conservative views and trying to gain the catholic vote while being involved with Catholic official Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, who was involved in taking money from abortion activist.  Again, Breibart interviewed and quoted only those who supported this article that is clearly targeted at conservatives.  They also show a photo that makes Sanders look angry and as if he is attacking someone.
