Confirming the Bias

Confirmation bias can be described as interpreting an issue in a way that conveys the story in the light that is most beneficial for the media outlet's agenda.  Although I was aware of the bias present in the media coverage today, this semester has given me a much greater insight and awareness of such bias.  There is certainly is a lack of overall awareness, especially amongst the masses, when it comes to the concept of confirmation bias.  Without such awareness, people are not always going to receive the absolute truth.  This can lead to a mislead group of voters if we are not careful.  We've heard of the people being deceived by not always truthful politicians, but this is the new weapon for the establishment.  I'd like to show two examples of potential bias.
The two images that I've displayed so far are prime examples of potential confirmation bias.  The question becomes, what is to be gained from the outlet interpreting a story in such a manner?  Another thought comes to mind in who the outlet is showing favor towards.  The difference in Fox News and CNN's coverage of Donald Trump is easier to understand.  Partisan lines have clearly been established throughout the development of each network.  Once this notion is understood, one can find a closer path to the truth.

Another example of confirmation bias would be when the rioting occurred in Baltimore.  CNN showed headlines that included the word protestor in place of rioter.  Fox News centered their coverage more around the laws being broken, and the destruction that was taking place.  CNN focused more on being sympathetic to all people involved.

This type of bias is present everywhere we look once we are made aware.  Stay Aware People!
