The election has been decided by three factors, by our Personal Emotions, by Political Parties, and by Pop Culture and Pop Media

 Richard McLaughlin:
The election has been decided by three factors, by our Personal Emotions, by Political Parties, and by Pop Culture and Pop Media

Personal/Emotional:

By personal I mean us as individuals on a personal level. This includes our fears, hopes, our families and their influence on us. As Dr. Swint mentioned in class Donald Trump appeals to people on more of a personal level, he appeals to our fears about getting jobs and our hopes about America not sliding down the tube and becoming something we can be proud of again. I have to say Trump capitalized on my fears when he mentioned how jobs are leaving the country for China, the thought of deindustrialization of my country sends a chill down my spine.

From my experience at the Bernie Sanders at Morehouse he also did a great job appealing to me personally, making me mad about my friends who made bad decisions and are now convicted felons who can’t get jobs while CEO’s who cause massive amounts of human misery just have to pay a fine, no arrest record, no long term consequences.
Political Parties:

Political Parties excerpt a huge among of influence process, more so than ordinary people do. As Dr. Swint pointed out both in class and in interview usually the party’s pick who will win. Bernie Sanders fought against his own party, despite his popular appeal he is fighting a losing battle against the anointed heir of the Democrats even though he is more on board with his parties principles then Hillary, even though she has supported so much of what Democrats often complain about

On the Republican side something unusual has happened. The Insurgent candidate, the protest candidate, the kind that should have been swatted aside like Bernie was has won.
Pop Culture Pop Media:

In a lot of ways we have been seeing Donald Trump ads sense we were kids. They were called “reality TV”. One of those shows was “Celebrity Apprentice” by Donald Trump. Donaldd Trump handles himself in pretty much the same way he runs his campaign, “your fired” “you’re a loser”. Actually wait, that’s how just about all reality TV is. Trump is a lot like a rock star or rapper. Pulling up in his fancy car, bragging about the money he has, showing off his bombshell wife half his age. Whether it’s “Tele Tequila”, “Celebrity Apprentice”, or the Pickup Artist the minds of my generation are made for a Trump candidacy.

This is why despite being arguably the best candidate Sanders lost. Sanders is an intellectual man who appeals to those who read complicated literature. He’d be a great candidate for a country not dominated by pop culture and reality shows.
